Canihike, Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival Sunday 26th April 2026
Free Canihike (group session)
Service Description
Come and join our Canihike and gain confidence with walking your dog hands free. Sessions are suitable for everyone who is able to walk on mixed terrain for approximately 3 hours/ 10km. No prior experience needed. We can accommodate nervous and reactive dogs and give extra space. For beginners we advise a maximum of 1 dog per person. If you wish to bring more than one dog, please contact us before booking to discuss at jules@noseandpawsactive.co.uk During the session, you and your dog will be able to borrow high quality Canihike equipment (human belt, dog harness and bungee line) to give you a safe, hands free hiking experience with a qualified canihike coach. We have a wide range of kit but sizes may be limited so booking early is recommended. We only use harnesses, lines and belts that are suitable for the activity. All personal equipment will be checked for fit and suitability at the start of the session (equipment can then be borrowed if needed). All participants must be over 8 years old (or be able to confidently walk the distance). Under 18's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the session. Family members welcome to join dog less! Dogs must be near to or over 12 months old (no upper age limit if they are fit/ healthy). We will ask you to complete an online Google form to check we have equipment that is suitable for you and your dog. We may find on occasion, that we are unable to accommodate your dog due to to the ratio of their measurements (e.g. neck size: body ratio) or because multiple dogs of the same size are already booked on to the session but we will discuss this with you to try to find a workable solution. We may encounter livestock on our routes - we do try our best to avoid cows and will re-route as necessary. This is approximately a 3 hour canihike finishing around 12.30pm. Kit fitting will be at 9.00am for the hike to start promptly at 9.30am. Please make sure you wear comfortable and sturdy walking boots/ shoes with a good grip. Please wear tighter fitting trousers or leggings if possible as this is more comfortable with the belt. Bring adequate water for you and your dog and walking poles if you like to use them. It is advisable to wear layers and have waterproof clothing available in a rucksack with water, dog treats, human snacks and a small first aid kit. We walk in all weathers unless we deem it unsafe to do so (icy conditions, high winds, thunder storms, unsafe temperatures - for humans and dogs).
